Lousy Soldier
Wednesday, September 26, 2007
OMG. I just realized how lousy a soldier I make. Oh wait. I always know that all along, but this is realization man.

Anyway, I had Ground Defense Training (GDT) today, compulsory for all Air Force personnel to get familiarized with the M16 rifle (after so long of not touching guns). We have to get dressed in No.4, the army camouflage uniform.

I spent like, 15 minutes getting ready in that thing. Seriously. Firstly, the uniform is kinda too big for me already, it's like I am drowning in them (OMG I SLIMMED DOWN!!! :D :D).

And then, OMG, I realized that I took out two left boots from the storeroom yesterday. And shit, it was almost time to go down, so I don't have the luxury of bringing down boxes to open to find my boots. Anyway, the boots were kinda big for me, so my right foot didn't feel uncomfortable wearing a left boot. But boy, it looks weird.

And then, I can't tie my garters! I am like, sweating and panicking and my garters can't secure the excess pant length (which was REALLY long). After 10 minutes of trying, I finally figured out that I had done it the opposite way (put the garters outside my pants, as opposed to inside). I barely made it to TAB on time.

From this horrible experience, I know why I am so happy being an Air Force Technician. I always hated the army, I don't like the idea of being a "soldier". I don't like war; I don't like fighting; and killing is stupid. When I got posted to the Air Force, I can finally discard my "soldier" status, even though, as we are constantly reminded, Air Force is a military organization, and that we are soldiers before technicians, but I totally disagree. I see myself as a tech, not an army solider. That's probably why I am "garang". Because I feel so 幸福 being a Dedicated Crew Chief.

Even though it's only for one day, wearing that No.4 throws me back to being a solider, and I hated the idea of it. I would rather wear my blue coveralls please.

Suayness Again?
Thursday, September 20, 2007
I believe I am doused with bad luck.

Yesterday, I went out to eat dinner with SL and Gloria at Causeway. I was terribly terribly hungry (because I only ate one apple for lunch....), and I was so impatient to eat. I suggested eating at Horizon foodcourt, because I wanted to eat the sambal chicken rice very badly. I was so desperate for food that I practically dragged the two girls to 5th floor.

Along the way, they started teasing me about eating at various places. Then they suggested Jerk Thai at Civic Plaza. Feeling intrigued, but too hungry to walk all the way down and cross traffic lights to eat Thai food, I then said, "If there are no more space in foodcourt, we go there ok?" Later did I know, I will come to regret those words...

When we stepped into the foodcourt, I saw a table immediately. Just when I was making a beeline to the table, a group of students snatched it away. The two of them were laughing then. Dots.

Then, we walked around, and I spotted another one. And guess what.... the same thing happened, this time, the table taken away by a group of Popular Bookstore employees. Glor and SL were practically laughing and laughing until they want to die la. Very zek ark hor?

Not to be given in easily, we finally found a table somewhere near the back of the foodcourt. And I finally had my sambal chicken rice....

Why ar? Why is my luck so suay ar? What did I do ar? Can someone enlighten me?

Will my bad luck continue to run? Or will it run out? Who knows? Stay tuned to find out....

Of Polo Tees
Sunday, September 16, 2007
Today, I fulfilled my long-time (okay, not really long...) wish of owning polo tees.

Well, having polo tees from Girodano doesn't count. What I meant was, presentable polo tees I can go out with. And look fashionable. :P

But I was very 心痛. Kinda. I spent $78 on both polo tees. I only intended to buy one, but the saleslady persuaded me to buy the two that I was choosing between. CQ just said, "If you like, up to you lor."

The designs are very nice. I don't have anything like those in my wardrobe, so it is a refreshing change. Maybe I'll post pics of me wearing them. If I get my hands on a camera. :P

I think I'll be going back there to buy shirts next. I saw some designs which attracted me. I do need to get one for my cousin's wedding in December. I can't possibly turn up in the same pink shirt she saw me wearing a month ago. It's... unfashionable. :P

ETA: Here are pictures of my polo tees, courtesy of my brother's camera phone.

On BMT and Treats
Saturday, September 15, 2007
I went back to Palau Tekong today, my first time since 1 years and 3 months, to send my friend, Jason Yap, for his enlistment.

I can't really say that it brings back nostalgia, because this time, I am viewing the entire process from a different perspective. The cook-house food, well, they served us western meal, and it is still the same as the ones I eat every Thursday (if, I ever eat :P). The bunks, company line, doesn't change. Nostalgia? Nah... I didn't really like BMT. I don't like army stuff, all the stupid discipline and chiong sua crap.

We toured Falcon Company, the one Jason is in right now. I met an old friend there, David, from PJ choir. He's a section commander for Platoon 3 for Falcon. Too bad he isn't Jason's commander though. Jason's commanders, well, they look...fierce. :p David is a nice guy. :)

Hmm... But seeing Jason off, especially when we depart, is kinda sad. I mean, I feel sad for him. He's going to go through so much shit and tekaning (not that it's any different in where I am now... but still...), and seeing him walk away from us, his friends and brother... It's kinda like a parent sending their son off to some foreign lands... Ha. I suddenly have "parental feelings". I am weird like that. But oh well. Jason is quite looking forward to it anyways. I wish him all the best in Tekong. Best Recruit wor! :P

At night just now, I met up with SL, PY and Glor to have dinner. Thanks to PY who reminded me, I ended up treating the three of them to Swensens' Earthquake (and I ended up paying 66% of the bill... I am kee siao today. :P).

This whole mess all started with me treating WQ, CQ and Joyce to Swensen's Earthquake early this year because I was horrendously 1 hour late for our lunch meeting. And this thingy spread to the whole of ASG, and suddenly, everybody wanted a treat as well. Oh well. This is my third time treating Earthquake wor. I believe I still have Janet left to treat... Hey. Go sometime before end October. I have some vouchers to use. *hint hint*. :P

And so, I learned my lesson. I shall never treat anyone unless the whole of ASG is present. :P

Quote from Joyce
Sunday, September 9, 2007
"When things happen to yourself, you don't want to bring too much hope for yourself, but others will encourage you."

I am quoting from Joyce. I happen to totally agree with her on this. I find that it is very true, especially for both of us. Ha.

Anyone got differing views?

Unexpected Dreams
Saturday, September 8, 2007
日有所思,夜有所梦。

I was thinking about this last night before I sleep (actually, more of the phrase suddenly appearing in my mind :P). I was thinking that while it may be true for others, it only truly happened to me once. :P

Yesterday's dream did not add to the pathetic count of dreaming of what I was thinking about. In fact, yesterday's dream was totally unexpected.

I dreamed about Faisal. Some of you know him, some of you don't (it's okay). He was from my JC's choir, same year as me. And that dream was a weird one, and I still remembered it.

Without going into the details, I remembered that dream because of two reasons. Firstly, I haven't talked to Faisal in like, months, much less dreamed about him. So, it left quite an impression. Secondly, in that dream, he more or less ignored me, choosing instead to talk to Gloria, who was beside me all the while. In that dream, I felt very left out, 被排斥的那种感觉. And that, inevitably, hurts a lot. So, that's why I remembered it.

I don't know why I dreamed that dream. Maybe it's a recollection (of sorts) of my past, while my brain goes through my memories. Maybe it represents something which I have been wanting all along. *shrugs* But whatever it means, both Glor and I felt that it is, indeed, a very weird dream.

Well, dreams don't make sense most of the time anyway.

Jinxed
Friday, September 7, 2007
I was almost convinced that today is Friday the 13th.

Except that it is not. It's Friday the 7th. :P

Wa... I am kinda jinxed today leh. There's two weird incidents that happened within the space of 2 hours.

I was meeting Joyce to eat Sakae Sushi buffet at 6pm. Unfortunately, the buffet starts at 6.30, so we went down to Courts to look-see and wait for buffet time.

We were examining the laptops. We keep touching them, and flipping them open and close to test. I was just doing that to a laptop, flipping it open and close, when suddenly, the alarm rang. It's like, I think the sensor thought I was stealing the laptop. I was like damn paiseh la. How come Joyce touched so many laptops and nothing happened, and the first laptop I touched, the alarm rang. Wa.... So scary lor. Luckily, nothing happened to me. :P

Then, after the dinner, we decided to walk around Causeway Point because we are feeling very full. We stopped outside Seoul Garden to read a sign (the store is closing on 11th Sept for a renovation and will be opening mid-October, for your info), and like, 5 seconds later, the sign dropped. I hightailed out of there asap.

LOL! It's like, I am cursed today leh. Joyce said I should blog about this, and so, here I am. You people got to read about the jinxed day of Kelvin Yip. :P

I hope my luck won't be so suay from tomorrow onwards. :P

Stupid Acts
Monday, September 3, 2007
My dear friends, look at this article. Read it.

Okay. Basically, one stupid soldier decided to bring an armed rifle out of base, after being issued with rounds and that gun for his guard duty. They finally found him at Orchard Cineleisure at 8pm just now.

And that, to me, is not the most stupidest thing. The most stupidest thing is that he is about to ORD in less than a month.

Now, that is really stupid. Imagine. He tahan-ed for so long le, just suffer for less than 30 days more, he can come out already. And lead a free life. Why must he do such a stupid stupid thing? I really cannot get it leh. Now, he's gonna be facing the next few years squatting down in DB (most likely, duhz, but don't quote me on this wor), when he could be free and living a life that is his to enjoy.

Actually, now that I think about this, I don't know if I should pity him or not. Most probably he snapped from all the pressure he could be facing. And snapped people tends to do things unexpectedly. Well, maybe. Otherwise, why would he do such stupid things?

Unless he 活的不耐烦.

Of Stupid Food Stall Owners
Saturday, September 1, 2007
Wa! I am super angry today leh.

I was ordering chicken chop rice, without coleslaw, from the Western food stall at the KouFu foodcourt in 768. The person was quite busy, and his attitude was lousy. He said that I have to wait quite long, and that's quite fine. And then later, he complained that I was fussy and 麻烦 for not wanting coleshaw. MY GOD. I WAS SO PISSED!

Now look. I am a fussy eater, I admit. I am a very fussy eater. There are A LOT of things I don't want eat, and coleslaw is one of them. I would rather die than to eat that, and trust me, I really would.

Imagine my anger when a hawker complained that I am troublesome. Hello. Excuse me! It's entirely my right to choose what I want in my body. And besides, I am not telling him "because I don't want coleslaw, I am not paying the full price". No. That's stupid. So, what rights has he to complain about my eating habits? HE HAS NO RIGHTS! What if someone is actually allergic to coleslaw? He's going to insult the person too, for being troublesome?

I am damn pissed la. I don't know about other KouFu, but this particular outlet of mine has managers walking around to oversee the food-court operations. I was so prepared to launch into a loud, audible tirade about lousy customer service whenever some manager walk pass my table. However, none did. (What are they doing in one corner anyway? *grumble grumble*) I wouldn't normally want to jeopardize someone's career, but his attitude was intolerable. Totally intolerable. Nobody insults my eating habits and gets away with it. *glare*

That's it. I am banning that stall forever. Besides, the western stall from Fork & Spoons (the halal section of KouFu) is so much nicer anyway. :P
