RSAF Open House
Sunday, August 31, 2008
Yesterday, I went to RSAF Open House with my air force friends from the 26th NSF batch.

Our main aim was to catch up with our seniors in 140, and to catch the aerial display, which features a scramble by our squadron guys.

We arrived at around 9.45, and we went to say hi to some of our squadron guys. We didn't talk much, as the aerial display is starting, and our seniors keep chasing us away to catch the show.

The show brings back nostalgic memories, especially the scramble part. Hearing the planes start up, a sound which I didn't hear for 4 months, brings back memories. That was what I used to do! Some of you might call me siao, but, yeah... I really miss the sound of the F16 starting up. (And stop telling me to sign on. Just because I miss my job back in the Air Force doesn't mean I want to commit myself to the military for life.) The scramble was a shortened version of the real thing.. but ayiah, cannot show the public everything ma. =p The rest is ok la... Ayiah. Don't know what to comment, cause after the scramble launch, I lost interest already. =p

After that, we all went to the crew room to talk to the scramble people. We met quite a number of people: Zhao Lin, Alex Xiao, soon-to-ORD-and-most-senior-NSF Wang and of course, our CWO, 1WO Chiang. We caught up with each other for a quite a while, and then we moved on to the static display area to talk to the rest.

There, we saw and caught up with our seniors, including Thomas, Encik Teoh, Bernard, Major Markin, Eit Haw, Anthony Tan, Tian Chye, Dennis. We even tried to "test" our juniors, the 30th batch, but they overheard us saying "6WC", so we were exposed. =p We took pictures with almost everyone, including the BK pilots (who recognized Kelvin Pang). People like Quinze took pictures of the F16s at almost every angle. LOL! It's like, a very rare opportunity to officially take pictures of the planes we touch everyday, so Quinze went photo-crazy with my ex-camera. =p I can't wait to see how it turns out. Quinze, I want photos!

The Open House is okay la. I think what made it fun was because I was from the air force, and I have friends there now. Otherwise, it was just kinda boring for me. Remember, for future air shows, please remember to bring water bottles and apply sunblock. Lots and lots of sunblock. (I am now sun-burnt. Great. One more tan-line to the already existing one I got from Hall FOC. Must remedy those ugly tan-lines soon!!)

ESFJ MeMe

I hardly do these things... I came across this in one of my friends' blog, and I decided to give it a try. And well, I think the following explanation does suit me. =p Tell me what you think, k?

Your result for The LONG Scientific Personality Test...

ESFJ-The Provider

Providers, a subgroup of the Guardians, take it upon themselves to arrange for the health and welfare of those in their care, as well as being quite sociable. Wherever they go, Providers take up the role of social contributor, happily giving their time and energy to make sure that the needs of others are met, that traditions are supported and developed, and that social functions are a success. Providers are extremely sensitive to the feelings of others, which makes them perhaps the most sympathetic of all the types, but which also leaves them rather self-conscious, that is, highly sensitive to what others think of them. Because of this, Providers can be crushed by personal criticism, and will work most effectively when given ample appreciation both for themselves personally and for the service they give to others. This is not to say that Providers are afraid to express their own emotional reactions. They are quick to like and dislike—, and don’t mind saying so, —tending to put on a pedestal whatever or whoever they admire, and to come down hard on those people and issues they don’t care for. You share your type with 10% of the population.

As a romantic partner, you work hard to nurture and protect your relationships. You go to great lengths to maintain harmony and are motivated to resolve conflicts. You have a very clear idea of what is important to you and do your best when your partner shares those same values. You want your partner to be loving, committed, and willing to support your frequently overwhelming feelings and reactions. You feel most appreciated when your partner is kind, considerate, and helpful, and compliments you often on your hard work in their behalf.

Quinze's Air Force Nick
Sunday, August 24, 2008
Today, Quinze has a rather interesting MSN nick. Let me post it here.

"I am the wind... On land, no blade of grass moves without me. At sea, every rising wave is touched by me..."
But without the technician's signature, I am like Nothing on Earth.

As a Dedicated Crew Chief, I totally agree with this statement. As fellow seniors keep telling us, "We let the pilots fly." LOL! Without our signature of approval stating that the aircraft is fit for flight on the plane's record book, the pilot wouldn't even have to step out of his office to fly the plane. =p

What a clever use of two advertisements! Good job, Quinze! =D

Hungry Ghost Festival Dinner
Saturday, August 23, 2008
BFF and his mother graciously invited me to eat dinner with them at a Hungry Ghost Festival dinner (they have an empty seat due to some situations).

I must say that that was my first Hungry Ghost dinner. I haven't attended any in my 21 years of life.

The dinner was quite interesting, with auctions happening as the people eat. They sold all kinds of things, ranging from basket of oranges to rice and to the 黑金. The prices are like exorbitant for those items (I don't mean the 黑金 or Goddess of Mercy statuette, cause I know that those can fetch high prices, but rather, for common items sold in the supermarket). For example, one basket of oranges sold for $600+. I was like "that's one lot of very expensive oranges!". However, CQ told me that the $600 actually goes for getting seats (and tables) at the next dinner next year and of course, for "luck". Huh. So essentially, people are paying like hundreds every year to get seats to this dinner... Wow. And also, according to BFF, some people actually bid unusually high for an item is due to them being drunk (beer was served) and got high on bidding. Heh. Bet their wives will go "$600 FOR A BASKET OF ORANGES? BASKET YOU!!!!!!" Heh Heh!

The food is actually, very below average. It's like a typical Chinese restaurant dinner, except for sub-standard food. Okay la, not pia jiak till cannot eat, but yeah.... The waitresses are mainly made up of secondary school kids, who know nuts about serving people. I swear, if these standards appears in a restaurant, I'll be asking for feedback forms.

HaHa! So, my experience eating at such an occasion has been a rather interesting one. I won't say I am keen to go back again, but I think what matters most is the company. Luckily got CQ, otherwise I would be stone dead liao. LOL! =p

Oh yes. Thank you auntie and BFF for giving me free dinner! =D

7th Month
Thursday, August 14, 2008
Throughout all these years, I have been upholding a family tradition of sorts. In every 14th day of the 7th Lunar Month, I would go down with my family to burn offerings for our "fellow brothers".

This year, I was not able to do so. One, I am staying in hall. Two, even if I am not in hall, my class ended at 6.30pm today, and it would be too late even if I rush home (unless I take a taxi la).

I feel very ke xi that I was not able to join my family this year. Even though I am an atheist, to me, this is a family practice, a family tradition of sorts.

But, I did contribute to the tradition by folding the paper incense into gold ingots and stuff. Kinda fun la, and well, I felt at least 安慰 that I was able to contribute something, even if I cannot burn them or throw rice/bananas/wine all over today evening.
