Well, 小娘惹 has a special 3-minute snippet today at 9.55pm on Channel 8. They called it a "YueNiang and Chen Xi Reunion Special".

You know what? It's a bloody waste of my 3 minutes. Chen Xi basically just explained that he knows YueNiang loves him, and can't be together with him because of his family (his MaMa would be traumatised) and reputation (divorce is very much frowned upon in those days). YueNiang also said that she knows Chen Xi is happy and doing well with Libby. Blah blah blah....

Basically, this was what the producers and the scriptwriter said in all the newspaper interviews. They are just putting those words in the protagonists' mouths, hoping that the audience would be able to accept the explanations better because they came from YueNiang and Chen Xi themselves.

That won't work. It feels forced, like I am watching Ou Xuan and Qi YuWu feeding those lines to us, instead of a genuine story between YueNiang and Chen Xi. That is a huge difference, and I am sure the audience won't be oblivious to that.

Besides, there are a couple of errors with the snippet. Firstly, Chen Xi has no idea that YueNiang survived, much less adopted YuZhu's son, but yet, he mentioned that he felt happy that she did all that and led a happy life. Major major canonical error. Secondly, there were no subtitles. MediaCorp apparently forgot that Channel 8 dramas, especially 小娘惹, transcend beyond the Chinese community. How do you expect the other races to understand the snippet? Just because it is a mere 3-minute snippet doesn't mean they can be careless like that.

I expect a huge backslash in the papers the next few days. In fact, I would be surprised if there's no backslash. Singaporeans aren't stupid, you know.
